Baby Names

I have a few names that I have come up for our baby girl.  I’ll have some descriptions on how we came up with some of these names, but I’ll put the poll up first to not taint the vote.  If you have other suggestions, post it in the comments!

With the coming of a girl, the name Obadiah is off the table (and thus Obi-Wong is dead).  Of course I couldn’t leave out Star Wars names.  But a little explanation might be needed for some of these names.

Jaina: Based on the post-Return of the Jedi storyline.  Jaina is Han Solo & Leia’s daughter.  She has a long story.  http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Jaina_Solo

Leia: This should be obvious enough.

Aayla:  Extreme Star Wars nerds will recognize this name.  They’ll know Aayla Secura as the sexy blue jedi from the prequel-trilogy timeline.  Lesser nerds will know her as the blue jedi girl who got shot in the back in Revenge of the Sith. Normal people will not even know she exists.  http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Aayla_Secura

Hannah:  We just like this name.

Chloe:  We need some names to match Caleb & Caris.  Starts with C and has five letters.  This fits.  When I think of Chloe, I think of the girl from Smallville.  I always thought Superman should have hooked up with her rather than Lana.

Callie:  Another C name alternative.  Not 5 letters though, so that might be dead before it even gets started.

No Sex For You!!

Why is it that we can’t get the sex of our baby? Why is it that every other pregnant couple we meet can find out the sex of the baby, and we can’t? This is our third baby, and for the third time we have been denied. How am I suppose to come up with baby names now? How am I suppose to register a domain name without knowing the sex and thus name of the baby?

Now we’ll have to come up with 2 names, one for a boy, one for a girl. That’s double the work.

I’ve received some comments saying how terrible my names were. I’ll have to disagree on that. I’ve come up with a few more boys and girls name. You can vote on which is the best!

Gender / Week 19 Pictures

Here are pictures of our little one inside Yvonne’s tummy.  As with our previous children, we do not know what the sex of this one is.  Of course, I blame Yvonne.

Obi 19 weeks

Obadiah or JavaScript?

This Friday morning, we will be getting our ultrasound. We have a chance to see the sex of the baby, but knowing our luck, we won’t find out.

With Caleb, we didn’t find out his sex until the third or fourth time we got an ultrasound. Luckily Yvonne worked at the hospital and could use their ultrasound machine after we didn’t find out the first time. With Caris, Yvonne didn’t have ultrasound machine access at the hospital since she no longer worked there. It wasn’t until the 34 or 35 week of pregnancy that we were finally able to find out Caris was a girl.

So what will it be this time? Will I get another chance at Obi-Wong? Or will we have to come up with another girl’s name? I should name her a programming language. Ada? Perl? Ruby? JavaScript? God-willing, we’ll find out Friday.

What Supernanny Taught Me

Yvonne and I like watch Supernanny sometimes while we eat dinner.  For those of you who don’t know what the show is about, the Supernanny (Jo) visits these dysfunctional families almost always with 3 or more kids and teaches them how to solve their problems.  The show actually does teach us some things, but I joking tell Yvonne the thing this show teaches me the most is to get a vasectomy.

We had a June deadline this year to decide if we wanted to have another child.  If we didn’t get pregnant by that deadline, or decided we didn’t want another child by then, I’d get a vasectomy.  Well there’s no need to wait for the deadline, cause Yvonne is pregnant with child number 3.

We’re still early on this one (only 5 weeks along), but if everything goes right he’ll have an estimated date of September 8 of popping out of Yvonne.  And yes, I did say “he.”  Not that I know what the sex is, nor would we have any idea at this point, but I finally broke Yvonne down and got the green light for the name Obadiah.  I think it’s more the point that we used up all of our names that I got the green light.  So if it’s a boy, and Yvonne doesn’t veto the name later on, we’re going to be calling our son Obi-Wong!

Of course if it’s a girl, or we decide later that we don’t want Obi-Wong, we have no ideas for another name.  I think we’ll have to go with another ‘C’ name with 5 letters.  A girl name might be easier to come up with, since a girl can pretty much be called anything and not be made fun of.  However, with a boy, I wouldn’t want my son to have some flowery name.  And I don’t want to call him Chuck.  If possible I would like the initials to be some technology acronym like CSS or XML.  But I can’t think of any tech acronym that ends in W.  Maybe WWW, but that is all.

Even with a vasectomy, I don’t know if that can stop a machine like me.  My boys are too strong to be stopped by a surgical procedure.  Each time that I’ve knocked up Yvonne, I’ve broken through on the first unsafe instance.  There’s no stopping me and my little guys.

Happy 6-Month Birthday, Baby Caris!

Our baby girl is 6 months old today!  We’ve been so busy that we haven’t even started her on solids.  We pulled out the feeding table about 5 minutes ago.  Our goal is to start her on her first rice cereal tomorrow morning!

I’ve also realized that I’ve neglected to blog on Caris’ milestones.  It’s really much harder to keep up with all this stuff with your second child.

I started to worry a little about Caris around when she was 3.5 months old since she was only just turning from side to side (versus full rolling like Caleb did at 3.5 months).  A month later she was rolling.  Rarely does she stay on her back for long now.  Even when she sleeps, she likes to roll onto her belly (even though she’s still swaddled!)

Caris has been doing this interesting (but effective) back scoot since she was about 3 months old.  That was her first method of getting to the toys behind her on the changing pad.

She sits really well too…. except when distracted by a toy.

Now, she’s actually starting to crawl!!! (not real crawling on hands and knees, but she can get what she wants several inches in front of her with the propelling force of her knees and feet).  I certainly don’t have to worry about Caris being too laidback to move anywhere.  She’s got spunk, and she does try to get what she wants.

Some cute pics:
