Pop Goes the Weasel

It was another rainy day here in LA.  So what does any normal family do on a rainy day?  Stay indoors and relax?

Nope.  Not this normal family.  Knowing we’d get a yelling by our parents in the future, we chose to go to Disneyland!  We bought a rain cover for the stroller for Caleb.  We got our new umbrella.  We had Caleb bundled up.  So we went prepared.

We enrolled Caleb in this music class that we go to every Saturday.  So they gave us a CD that we can listen to; songs that they use in the class.  One of the songs is "Pop Goes the Weasel."  Now most of you, I would imagine, probably don’t remember the lyrics to this song.  In fact, you probably only know the "Pop goes the weasel" part like me and Yvonne.

So we started listening closely to the lyrics and honestly, they didn’t make any sense to us.  First we couldn’t really understand what they were saying since the lyrics didn’t quite make sense to us.  So we looked up the song on wikipedia (I know wikipedia is frowned upon in the academic community, but they have almost always provided thorough and accurate information).  Here are the lyrics on our CD:

All around the cobbler’s bench
The monkey chased the weasel;
The monkey thought ’twas all in fun,
Pop! goes the weasel.

A penny for a spool of thread,
A penny for a needle—
That’s the way the money goes,
Pop! goes the weasel.

Now after reading this…  we still don’t know what it means.  We know that fairy tales had all these meanings used for teaching.  Real fairy tales were used to teach the children about certain things.  So was there some hidden meaning we were suppose to get out of this children’s song?  Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_Goes_the_Weasel to check out the meaning.

I got six new videos at http://youtube.com/linwong.  You can subscribe to my channel to get all the updates to the videos.  Here’s one of him jumping.

We shall be getting our new camera soon.  Should be much better pictures and much better video.

Videos

So if you didn’t notice from a previous post, I’ve been putting up the rare videos I do have of Caleb up on YouTube.  I haven’t posted all of them, but the ones I do have are at http://youtube.com/linwong

Hello, Touch Typist. Meet Your Stinky Poo

Caleb has found a new toy.  And this is not something that we tried to show him.  Caleb was left out on the middle of our carpet.  While Yvonne was doing stuff, Caleb somehow moved (he’s not crawling yet) his way along the carpet and next to the TV.  For those of you who don’t know, I have a computer attached to my TV, and there’s a keyboard underneath the TV.  Caleb notices it, rolls over and starts banging on the keys.  Just what Yvonne wanted.  Another computer geek in the family.

Ever since Caleb started eating solid food, his poop has been stinky.  It started off with rice cereal, and his pooped the first day started to smell like rice which wasn’t too bad.  The next day, though, I had to change his diaper in the middle of the night.  As I was changing I felt a little faint from the stinkage.  He has moved on from rice cereal to avocado and now onto pears.

We got a couple’s annual pass to the zoo on New Years.  We went there for a few hours.  I don’t know how much Caleb enjoyed the animals.  We were trying to show him Ernie the elephant and George the giraffe, but he didn’t see as interested in the real animals as his toy ones.  In the future, we hope he’ll enjoy it some more.  At the moment, I think he’s fine just getting pushed around in the stroller.
